Chanatown

We are closing in on published post #200 here at Chanatown (stay tuned for the black tie gala), and I am proud of most of the content that I've managed to contribute to the Interwebs over the course of a year. Some of my more prominent articles are gaining a fair amount of recognition on Google search, but others remain buried in the archives. With the hopes of bringing some of the still relevant and noteworthy pieces back to the forefront, I chose to implement the widget LinkWithin to show related posts with thumbnails after each article.

Image by jessica.diamond via Flickr I know that compared to other blogs, 100 posts is a drop in the bucket. Some blogs achieve this feat in a day. For me, it's a proud accomplishment as I've had several blogs throughout the years, and the most successful one to date only made it to 72 posts. In addition, I feel like I'm on the verge of truly engaging in this hobby. I take pride in the system that I've developed in terms of getting lots of new content (the most important piece of any blog's success) up on the site.

Image via CrunchBase So, it's summertime, and you may have noticed the increased frequency of blog posts during the past week.  Although I will try to keep a healthy pace during the school year, chances are, you'll see me revert back to my 1-2 X/week goal.  One tool that may help keep the quality up is Zemanta Assistant.  I found this while browsing my Blogger Buzz .  When installed, I see a toolbar on the right of my post editor that automatically updates with related media (attributions included), articles (such as the ones below), and in-text links.  The dragging of images was a bit clunky at first (TIP: drag to blog post, then click on the image to see it properly), but the application of links, automatic update, and ease of use will definitely save me time in the future and hopefully add value to my content.  Thanks Zemanta! So, we're discussing blogging in our Teaching with Technology class (I'm the TA), and I was reminded of how Technorati was a leading search engine for blogs.  Much to my dismay, Chanatown was nowhere to be found, so I promptly joined, submitted a blog claim, and that's why you're reading a post with a serial number thing in the title.  Stay tuned for a more relevant post...

Setting up on Blogger was simple enough. Forwarding from godaddy.com to blogger was also manageable. Within hours, I had www.chanatown.net pointing to techstaffdeveloper.blogspot.com. Unfortunately, it took a call to tech support at godaddy.com to determine why I could not point chanatown.net to blogger. Much to my surprise, however, the customer service at godaddy was exceptional (I've had other pretty positive experiences), and the problem was that I had set up a free hosting account at godaddy.com and thus had to delete that account. Within an hour, chanatown.net was up and running, and perhaps, that's what brought you here. So, if you're having trouble, and you've tried all the advice of several other posts as I did, check to see if my problem applies to you, and cross your fingers or give the friendly tech staff at godaddy.com a call.
